The Marjot Foundation
Our Mission Statement The Marjot Foundation promotes environmental education in public high schools by funding student research projects. We believe that providing opportunities for hands-on research in the environmental sciences greatly enhances environmental awareness and responsibility among our nation’s youth. Simultaneously, Marjot’s program cultivates skills that students need to successfully pursue careers in science. We focus on rural and inner city public schools where funding for individual projects would otherwise be unavailable. Once funding availability has been established, students are invited to submit applications. Applications must state the nature of the research and the methods that will be employed and should include a budget proposal. Projects should be designed to last one year and must be hypothesis driven. Students must also name a mentor who will supervise their project. Each grant is worth $3000. Grant winners are expected to present their proposed work to the Marjot Board of Directors, summarize their mid-year progress to the Marjot Scientific Advisory Board and enter the final results of their research in a state or national science fair. Since our founding in 1998, we have funded thirteen students from Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont. We are proud to state that three of them won their respective science fairs. In the future, we hope to be able to increase funding to cover public high school students in all New England states. The Marjot Foundation is a nonprofit 501c3 entity registered with the Federal Government and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
